Electric Corby launches Community Energy – 100% Green, 110% Corby

Electric Corby, Corby Borough Council and Green Energy UK have worked in partnership to secure a share of £5m of Government funding which enabled Electric Corby to establish a Community Energy programme for the Borough.

In January Corby was one of just 31 successful bids out of a total of 114 bids for funding from the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) “Cheaper Energy Together” initiative.

As a result of this funding Electric Corby, Corby Borough Council and Green Energy UK have worked in partnership to launch Community Energy, a not-for-profit initiative to deliver a better, fairer energy deal for homes and businesses in Corby.

Community Energy powered by Electric Corby in partnership with Green Energy UK provides the following:

  • Same or cheaper price than your standard regional supplier
  • Benefits local community projects
  • 100% green is good for Corby and good for you
  • Available regardless of how you pay.

A dedicated website (www.electriccorby.co.uk/communityenergy/) has been launched this week to explain the benefits and help residents and businesses to switch. There is also local number to call if people have any queries about the Community Energy offer – 01536 388026

Corby Borough Council’s Lead Member for Environment, Councillor Peter McEwan said “The launch of this energy programme is a great step forward in helping residents and business get a cheaper and more sustainable energy source at a time when all of our purse strings are tight. I would encourage local people to explore the benefits of Electric Corby Community Energy and get advice on how they could take advantage of what it has to offer”

Nick Bolton, Electric Corby Project Manager said “With less than a third of people choosing to switch energy providers it is clear that most people either don’t know or haven’t been convinced of the benefits for them. The Electric Corby Community Energy programme aims to change that, saving people and businesses money and supporting the local community projects that are making Corby a better place.”
