Electric Vehicle Charging Points Launched in Corby

At Rockingham Motor Circuit on Friday 13th September 3pm Corby is launching its extended charge point infrastructure for electric vehicles, part of the towns strategy to ensure it is a leading edge location for business.

To complement the EV charge points already at Corby Station and the Corby Cube, charge points have been installed at a range of venues and businesses including the Holiday Inn, Adrenaline Alley and Corby Town Football Club. An online map showing the latest locations is available at http://www.electriccorby.co.uk.

Corby now has one of the highest concentrations of charge points per head of population in the UK

With 100% funding from a combination of the European Regional Development Fund and Department for Transport, Corby now has 21 charging points across the Borough, including one of the latest Quick Chargers that can recharge some EV’s in as little as 20 minutes.

Nick Bolton, Electric Corby said “Electric and hybrid electric vehicles will play a growing part in the future of transport in the UK. We have now extended the number of public access charge points in Corby and we are also supporting local businesses keen to be part of the growth in cleaner more efficient vehicle technologies by putting the necessary charging infrastructure in place.”

As part of this coming weekends British Touring Car Championship race meeting at Rockingham, Electric Corby is bringing it’s Community Energy Dome to the circuit and hosting a display of the latest electric cars from Toyota, Nissan, Renault and Vauxhall.

Anyone attending the race weekend on Saturday or Sunday (13th/14th) will be able to find out what the latest electric cars from the major manufactures can do and how Corby is making it easy to transfer from petrol or diesel to electric powered transport by ensuring that recharging your car is fast and straightforward.

The network of EV charge points in Corby is part of a wider “Plugged in Midlands” and a growing national network of chargers that are aimed at encouraging and supporting the emerging market for electric cars and light goods vehicles.

Leader of Corby Borough Council, Councillor Tom Beattie, said “We are delighted to be in a position to work with Siemens and Electric Corby on this project which will complement the public charging points the Borough Council has already installed at The Cube, Rail Station and Corby Enterprise Centre.”
